The Jewish Samurai...

Once upon a time, a powerful Emperor of the Rising Sun advertised for a new Chief Samurai.  After a year, only three applied for the job:  a Japanese, a Chinese and a Jewish Samurai.

"Demonstrate your skills!" commanded the Emperor.

samuraiThe Japanese samurai stepped forward, opened a tiny box and released a fly. He drew his samurai sword and *Swish!* the fly fell to the floor, neatly divided in two!

"What a feat!" said the Emperor. "Number Two Samurai, show me what you do."

The Chinese samurai smiled confidently, stepped forward and opened a tiny box, releasing a fly.He drew his samurai sword and *Swish! *Swish!* The fly fell to the floor neatly quartered.

"That is skill!" nodded the Emperor. "How are you going to top that, Number three Samurai?"

The Jewish samurai, Yoku Cohen, stepped forward, opened a tiny box releasing one fly, drew his samurai sword and *Swoosh!* flourished his sword mightily, but the fly was still buzzing around!

In disappointment, the Emperor said, "What kind of skill is that? The fly isn't even dead."

"Dead," replied Cohen in contempt. "Dead is easy.  Now circumcision, that takes real skill."

Shakespeare said;

Man and his four wives

There was a man who had 4 wives, he loved the fourth one very dearly, he would get her the nicest dress. He would get her the nicest jewellery, he would dress her very nicely and entertain with her all the time. She loved him, he loved her.

He also loved the third wife. The third wife was also dear to him, he would give her everything, she was the one who controlled everything in his life.

He also loved the second wife, he was also confident in her, she was the one to whom he would tell all his personal matters, he would always talk to his second wife about life.

His first wife was there, he wasn't too attached to her, she was always there, she was modest, always trying her best to show herself.

One day the man fell ill and he was on his death bed, all of his wives were gathered around him, he said "Now look, my beautiful wives, I don't want to die alone, who of you will come to me?"

He called his fourth wife and said "You are the dearest to my heart, I have always loved you, I have given you the best of all, now the time has come for me to die, will you come with me? would you come with me?" The wife said "No" and turned back and went away. His heart was broken into pieces.

Sadly he called his third wife to the front and said "I am going to die, will you come with me?" to that she said "No way, the moment you die, I am going with somebody else" she turned her back and went away.

He called his 2nd wife and asked her the same question, she said "I am sorry that you are dying, but I can only come up to your cemetery, I will be with you until there" and turned back to stand in her place.

From behind he heard a voice "I will come with you", he looked at his first wife and felt sad, he said "My dear I have always neglected you, you look so skinny, now my life has come to an end, I wish I knew you loved me more than anybody when I was healthy. I feel very sad I neglected you all this time" and died.

We all have four wifes.

In the story, 4th wife represents the body and its craving, which we lose when we die. The 3rd wife represent wealth, which others get after one leaves body. The 2nd wife all the friends and family who can only come up to the grave. The 1st wife represents the soul (or mind), it is always there but unnoticed, the most dearest and important one is ignored and one often realizes it only at the end of life.

Now is the time to strive spiritually, take all the chances you get and benefit. Before the oil of life is completely lost.

[This is a variation of the story from the sermon of Buddha. The essence is still intact. Main difference would be that in this story 1st wife doesn't represent karma or mind that one has to carry with them]

Happiness of others is the happiness of yourself

Once a group of 50 people was attending a seminar. Suddenly the speaker stopped and decided to do a group activity. He started giving each one a balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room. Now these delegates were let in that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written, within 5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their name, colliding with each other, pushing around others and there was utter chaos. At the end of 5 minutes no one could find their own balloon. Now each one was asked to randomly collect a balloon and give it to the person whose name was written on it. Within minutes everyone had their own balloon. The speaker began— exactly this is happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is. Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give them their happiness; you will get your own happiness. And this is the purpose of human life. (Quoted from Internet )
